I love my littles. I’m a Teacher. But I don’t want them to grow up and think life is only the way they see it now, you know, how they live. I want them to know and believe that they can change their life at any moment in time, even now. I want them to know they can be ANYTHING they want to be with no exceptions. So I told them my story!
I grew up with two loving parents and brother and sisters. My mom worked inside the home while my Dad worked outside the home. My childhood was great! This is unlike some of their lives. But that changed when I got married and divorced. I instantly became a single parent with no other parental contact or financial support. I worked two jobs, sometimes three. I’ve been on Food Stamps, had Medicaid for my kids, subsidized housing, and daycare assistance. I’ve had my lights cut off for non-payment, rode the city bus, asked for rides because I had no car, lived with my parents as a parent and been homeless. I knew I wanted more and I needed to do something about that. I needed to change, but only I could do it. I didn’t give up! It wasn’t even an option!
Then, I felt like I should be a Teacher. I was 30ish. I prayed to God that if he made it financially possible, I would go back to school to be a Teacher. And He did. I went to college full time and worked full time, sometimes with a part-time job. My kids went to school, then to daycare. On the weekends, they stayed with family if I had to work. After five years, I became a Teacher! I made too much money to get food stamps, medicaid, and subsidize housing. I could afford a car and my own home.
My life changed because I wanted it to. You don’t have to stay where you are. You are the only one who can change your own life! You have to put in the work! You have to want to change! You have to want more and better for your life! Having an education does that. Learn all you can. Want better for yourself, work hard and you can be anything you want. No, it’s not instant. But it is Worth it! You are PURPOSED to do GREAT things! Don’t give up!
To You: God loves you, but He’s not a genie! He can open the door, but you have to walk through. You have to do the work while he protects you, provides for you, gives you strength and peace. You are PURPOSED to do GREAT things! Don’t give up!
