Refreshment

This past week has had a lot more downs than ups.   Sometime life stops us in our tracks or at least slows us down.  No reason is known, sometime there is none. It’s just the way it is.  It’s how you deal with it that matters. Don’t let one or a million things change what you’ve accomplished.

I went away over the weekend before and my Dad went into the hospital.  I got home late on Sunday evening and got ready for school the next day.  Monday, I didn’t get up and go to the gym. I went to school and then went to take my dad home from the hospital.  Tuesday, I went to the gym, school and then a workshop after school. My mom called and my dad needed some things, so I went to pick them up and take them over. Wednesday, I didn’t go to the gym because of very cold weather,   I went to school and to a workshop after school. Thursday, I didn’t go to the gym because of very cold weather, I went to school and to two workshops (one after school and one at night online). Friday, I didn’t go the to gym because I was tired and sleeping in felt great.  I went to school, stayed late at school and my daughter called to tell me she had the flu. Saturday, I didn’t go to the gym, I woke up late, had my coffee, disinfected the house, washed clothes, cleaned the house, got groceries and rested. On Sunday, I went to church, made lunch, worked on my lesson plans for school and wrote this blog.  A full circle!

This blog is about refreshment.  I normally go the gym every morning (M-F) at 5am.  I try to live a very healthy lifestyle. But LIFE required me to change my day to day normal schedule into a schedule that made me change a few things, but in a good way.  After much thought, I realized that I have lived a healthy lifestyle for 5 months and missing days of workouts didn’t change who I was or who I am becoming. I didn’t change my eating habits or sleeping habits.  I kept in mind what I was doing and what I needed to do. I wasn’t going to let one week of non-workouts ruin my whole life. This week was refreshment for my life! A perspective of who I had become! And what I need to continue to do. LIVE!

I will be returning to my regular schedule program this week because I’m worth it and I miss it.  It kept me grounded and gave me more energy. Thank you DFIT for helping me to know and like my new lifestyle because it makes a difference in all the areas of my life. And I love my life.

One Word 2019

Jesus loves us with no strings attached.  I wanna be like that! Our purpose is to love others the way we want others to love us.  Unconditional, like Jesus loves us. Strive for that! In 2019, that’s my One Word—-Love!

In thinking of my goals for the coming year, I’ve been thinking how I like to be treated: consistent respect, loved unconditionally, forgiven, carried, hugged, positive encouragement, having a growth mindset, cheerleader, always believing, always hoping, always loving, never giving up, striving, changing for the better.

I make goals starting in August because I am a Teacher.  I have 6 goals that run from 2018-2020, short-term goals.  I have 5 out of 6 goals running  right now simultaneously   because they all fit together and I’m a very blessed and favored girl.   All of these goals are not out of selfish intent. These are goals affect other people as well as myself.

  1. Begin to pay off debt (starting in 2019)
  2. Get books published and write new ones (started)
  3. Become healthier in spirit, mind and body (started)
  4. Love my students and help them love learning (started)
  5. Fall in love with my best friend (started)
  6. Start National Board Certified Teacher Program (started)

Within each goal, are smaller goals that help these big goals seem not so big.  Things that I need to do to accomplish each goal. It may seem I’m a type A, but it helps me know what needs to be done.

While accomplishing these goals, I am asserting my One Word—Love!  Love for myself and others, but I need to be make sure I’m aware of my love for myself and others as the year progresses.  I need to be intentional. I need to be patient. I need to stop overthinking situations. I need to forgive myself and others and move on when it’s not returned or accepted.  I need to not put people in categories; we are all God’s children. I need to encourage, be inspirational, supportive and show compassion.

Goals help us to accomplish what we deem important to us and therefore, become important to those who matter.

God’s Glory

Having to be transparent at times a little difficult for me.  I am not an open book. But when God uses my difficulties as a story for his people and those that are not His, I must be transparent to show you how awesome and loving He is.

Being a Teacher means that I only get paid once a month and sometimes that is hard. Being Single Mom makes it all the more difficult in making sure all the bills get paid and we have food  to eat and gas to go places. Sometimes everything gets paid and sometimes something get left unpaid.

Recently in August right before school started, I put off paying the electric bill because of thinking I would get paid before school started.  I used that money to buy things I needed for my classroom because Teachers have to buy their own stuff. I postponed it 10 days after the due date and then found out I was not getting paid until the day school started (27th).  The bill was due on the 24th, a Friday. I wouldn’t get paid until that Monday.

I tried to figure out something.  I felt horrible, but there was nothing I could do, but pray. I prepared for the worst (no electricity). I made arrangement to stay at a friend’s home.  I found my kids places to stay. I packed all the food in the refrigerator to take to my friend’s house.  I cleaned, took out all the trash, washed all the clothes and waited. I went to school that morning and then back home expecting the electricity to be off, but it wasn’t.  I called my friend to let her know that I was waiting for it to be cut off. So I waited and waited and waited on Friday evening, Saturday morning, Saturday evening and Sunday morning.  The electric company workers can come at any time, even on the weekends to cut it off. Sunday morning, I checked my account balance at the bank because I needed some gas and I knew I had a least $10 in it.  But Glory be, my school check was in there, posted and ready to use. I immediately posted a payment with the electric company and thanked God for showing me His glory, grace, mercy and favor.

God showed me his glory.  He showed me how to prepared for things that could happen and recently for things I want to happen.  God showed up and showed out so that I could show you His greatness and love for his children. Just like He did this weekend when Hurricane Florence hit North Carolina, where I live.  He show His glory by calming the storm through prayers by people who love Him and people that don’t. Think about how many people who don’t know Him saw His glory through prayer. Now they know and hopefully they will have a change of heart about him.  You can too! Just ask Him. He loves you and wants you to see his glory, too!

True Friendship

I had been on vacation a missed a couple of Sunday services at my own church, but had gone to my sister’s church where I was visiting.  This was my first Sunday back at my own church.

I had missed some of my friends who I get to see every Sunday, but everyone needs to refresh themselves with a vacation.  Thinking about one of my best friends I usually sit with and hoping he would be there this morning made me extra excited about worship.

As I was walking in with my grandson, I was greeted by friends with smiles and great love.  I was already feeling awesome and this just took me over the top. Suddenly, I seen him and he had seen me.  We ran to each other and hugged for a long time. It was awesome. It was like seeing an old friend after an extended period of time.  I asked him to wait so I could take my grandson to children’s church, so we could sit together.

Once in the service, we made sure we found seats together and began worshipping our Heavenly Father together.  What a great friendship to have with someone. I am thankful for our friendship and I thank God for him.

This made me think about my friendship with God. This is how God feels about me!  He loves me and misses me when I’m distant from him. And when I “let go and let God”,  I run to Him and He catches me in His arms and we hug for a long time. Then we sit and have a long conversation about how much He missed me and how He wants me to stay close to Him.

Friendship is a relationship of mutual affection between people. God teaches us to love Him and love others.  Matthew 22:37-39 – Jesus replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”  This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” (NIV)

God brings people and takes people out of our friendship circle.  People who love us, support us, pray for and with us, who are honest with us and stick by us.  He loves us and wants us to be reminded that we are loved, cared for, and wanted by Him and our friends.

If you are seeking that kind of friendship, God wants you to know that He is waiting for you and He loves you!

But one of the most important things that happened in 1962 was my parents getting married!  Wow! That’s 56 years ago! What a trek! Six kids, nine grandkids and three great-grandkids.  What an abundant life!

Living in any decade is hard.  It wasn’t easy. My dad worked and my mom stayed home and took care of all of us.  Growing up was fun and we were never without. If we ever were, we didn’t know about it!  We traveled, went on vacations, church, school, ball games, played with our neighborhood friends, celebrated birthdays, holidays, etc.  It was the life! An abundant life!

The abundant life they created together began with a love of Jesus and each other.  Then it trickled down into our family. Generations have been blessed because of this union and generations to come will be blessed.  All because two people fell in love and both of them worked extremely hard year after year to keep it together. Happy 56th Anniversary, Mom and Dad!
