Dreamers Beware!

There is always someone in your circle of family or close friends who tries to shoot down your dream.  They listen to it, but give you a sense or tell you that you’re not good enough or smart enough to conquer anything other than what you are doing now.

But I’m here to tell you that you don’t need them!  Lots of times, it takes someone from the outside to see you for who you really are.  Someone who doesn’t really know you, someone who sees you to be more than who you are right now.  It could be a colleague, a neighbor, a Teacher, a Trainer, a stranger, or it could be just YOU!

Sometimes it takes others to cheer-lead for you.  Sometimes, it’s just you! Don’t quit! Don’t give up!  Don’t give in! Keep going! Keep believing! Keep trying!  You are destined for great things! Believe in yourself! You can do this!  WE can do this! Affirm Yourself! Repeat it daily!

God has destined you, purposed you for greater things.  He put inside you dreams that He and you alone can and need to fulfill for His kingdom.  People are counting on YOU to make your dreams a reality so they are can live freely! Your dream is something you love and are really good at.  It will be out of your comfort zone. It will take hard work! It may take months or years! But it’s yours! Claim it! Rejoice in it! You are a life-changer!

During our morning meetings at school, we say affirmation statements to each other face-to-face.  We say: I love you, I believe in you, You are destined for great things, Don’t give up, You are purposed!  It is important to tell yourself and others how important you are, that you matter and you are here on purpose, for a purpose.  It is very important that you believe in yourself!

Dream your BIG dreams!  Plan your BIG plans! Conquer those BIG obstacles!  You are not alone! If it’s in your heart and you think about it all the time!  It’s YOURS! Go get it!

I BELIEVE IN YOU!  Read Psalm 139, it’s my favorite!  Other verses about Purpose:

I know that you can do all things, no purpose of yours can be thwarted.  Job 42:2

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.  Proverbs 19:21

The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out.  Proverbs 20:5

Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed-not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence–continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.  Philippians 2:12-13

He has saved us and called us to a holy life-not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace 2 Timothy 1:9

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose Romans 8:28

 

Ending Freedom

Only a Teacher would know these words.  Summer has finally come to a close for us and we will head back in the classroom.  

The freedom of summer gives us a replenishment of self-control.  During the school year, we are pulled in different directions from different  sources trying to complete all tasks, serve the students and show growth. We need a break by summer!

Having summers off allows us the spend quality time with ourselves, our families, our friends and some of us even work.  During the school year, we work 24/7. We work at school, at home, on weekends, and during breaks. We are thinking about our students when we go to bed, when we wake up and during the day.  Because we care!

I am excited about going back tomorrow and getting my room ready for new students.  I love teaching and being a Teacher. I cannot see myself doing a different profession.  I know I will be pulled in every direction this coming year, but knowing that I am making a difference in them and they are making a difference in me is worth it.  I want them to notice how successful they are and that trying is succeeding.

Parents, know that it’s not the decorated room or the trainings that we must endure that makes us love our purpose.  It’s your children who come to us like sponges; soaking up everything they can learn and use to further their education.  It’s your support of your child and our purpose that makes the year so successful. And we thank you!

As the summer comes to a close for Teachers, we know that it will come again and we will be ready!!

 

Worthy

I’ve been on vacation this week and I haven’t been following my regular at home schedule.  So I have missed some of my daily devotions with God.

I had a moment this morning that made me realize that “you don’t have to be perfect to follow God”.  In fact,  God would rather us be broken, torn to pieces, battered, bruised, shaken, scared and a bunch of other not so lovely things, so He gets the glory for saving our behinds.

The story!

My grandson and I were traveling to meet my old high school friend for lunch.  We had to drive over the “Cape Fear River Bridge” that separates Wilmington, NC from Leland, NC and beyond.  This bridge has a grated part in the middle that is lifted when a big boat or barge needs to go under it.  As we are going over the bridge, traffic is heavy for two lanes on each side.  We are beside a tractor trailer at times as well as other vehicles.  As we are all on the last grated part, traffic is stopped because of the traffic light that is ahead.  We all start to slow down expect the tractor trailer who is beside us.  He slams on his brakes, skids to stop, I say, “Lord, help us” and slow down myself.  The tractor trailer comes to a stop, doesn’t fish tale into my lane or hit the person in front of him.  Praise God!  I told my grandson, “Only but God, only but God!” We thanked God all the way to our destination.

I had felt guilty for not including God in my vacation routine.  I was not consistent in indulging in His word like I am at home.  But He is not me!  Thank you, Jesus for being you!  He is always on time!  He is always with us!  He is always protecting us and loving us and providing for us.  There is no way, I mean, no way, my grandson and I and all those other people would have made it out without anything happening without God being there at that moment.

I love the way God loves me, in my mess or no mess.  He loves me so much even when I’m not consistent, not on time, not loving, not perfect!  He loves me and will always, always love me!  If you don’t know God the way I do, you are missing out on a loving, caring Heavenly Father who wants to get to know you!  Talk to Him, He is waiting to talk to you!  He created you and He knows you!  Let Him love you and feel His love for you today!

Reality Check

People go around saying you need a reality check.  Well, what they don’t realize is that everyone’s reality check is different.

Whatever you are living, whatever your goals, whatever your dreams are, is your reality.  If you get off track, then your reality check is to reassess your whatever’s and get them back on track.  What you do will be different from others and how you get them back on track will be different. You can’t look at other people and do what they do.  You have to do what is best for your whatever’s.

Make a list (pro/con), think with your heart and your head, write down your goals and dreams and how you will get there.  Dream BIG! Make sure these are your ideas and not someone else. Devote time to prayer and ask God what His goals and dreams for your life are.  His plans are way better than yours and His journey is way more exciting.

God has already prepared and planned our lives for us.  We just have to follow him to follow our destiny. Now that’s a Reality Check!

 

Happy Father’s Day Single Parents

It is inevitable that I write this single parent post on Father’s Day.  I had so many friends and family remind me of my role as a single parent mother/father in my children’s lives.  Not to take away from the father’s who are in their children’s life, but to stand up for the mom’s who are the ONLY caretaker in their children’s lives.

I celebrate Mother’s Day with a passion, I deserve that as a mom.  But I, as a single parent, earned the responsibility to also celebrate Father’s Day.  Where there is no other parental support, such as physical or financial, I appreciate the thought and support that family and friends give me as a single parent.

I applaud all single parents.  It is a hard road to travel. But when you decide your children are the most important thing in your life, you will stop at nothing to protect, insure, provide, love and care for them.  With or without support from others, you can make it. In fact, you can’t see it any other way. You will make it happen.

I know that even though I had no physical or financial support from their dads, I made it work.  I fought for them, worked several jobs at a time, went back to school, sacrificed things and never gave in or up.  I had family and friends who helped me tremendously and a Heavenly Father who looked after us all the time, protected us and provided for us when things looked impossible.

I would have never made it without my Heavenly Father.  He has never left me or my children. He watches over us, protects us and provides for us even now that they are young adults.  He loves us and wants the best for us. He has never stopped giving us what we needed.

I/We have a Dad/Papa that is celebrated on Father’s Day.  He is loved and adored by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  I appreciated him for loving us and making me into a strong independent mom. His work ethic and teaching us to take care of ourselves has helped me grow into the person that allowed me to stand strong during my single parenthood.

Thank you single parents for standing strong during the time when your children need it the most.  Thank you for working hard and teaching your little ones that they matter and are loved. Thank you to my Heavenly Father who loves me unconditionally and continues to take care of me and my family.  Happy Father’s Day to all the Single Parents everywhere!

 

Advice Through the Decades

I have only lived four actual decades, but I’m starting on my fifth.  When thinking about what got me through each one, I thought I would share them with you.

Decade one:  Believe in who you are!  You have great abilities that you don’t even know about yet.  Just do you and trust in God’s plans for your life.

Decade two:  It’s okay to be different!  Follow your own path and heart!  You are made for greatness. Just do you and trust in God’s plans for your life.

Decade three:  Life is hard. Sometimes you already know what decision you need to make before you actually make it.  Set goals and go after them no matter who is against you. Always believe in yourself. Just do you and trust in God’s plans for your life.

Decade four:  Dream! Dream BIG!  Let God change your heart to serve others, not yourself.  Don’t be materialistic! Share your stories with others. Become a light in the darkness so that others can find their way.  Just do you and trust in God’s plans for your life.

Decade five:  Have fun! PLAY!  Believe you are created for much more than where you are and what your doing now!  Believe in people, not things. Create an environment in your life that invites others to want what God has placed inside of you.  Set goals bigger than what you could ever hope to accomplish on your own because you know that God will go BIG on you! Just do you and trust in God’s plans for your life.

As the decades grow, so does the advice.  It grows because your wisdom has grown. You know more, therefore you can accomplish more and create more.  I pray that you will have many years to know how much God loves you and wants to create in you great advice to give to others who will need it.  Just do you and trust in God’s plans for you life!

Purposed!

Defined as something set up as an object or end to be attained.  Having purpose means to live a life full of meaning and intent.  This is your life!

You were given purpose a long time before you were ever created.  Even before Jesus was born. God knew he needed you because He knew you were going to be needed by others.  

Psalm 139: 13-16

Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;

   you formed me in my mother’s womb.

I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!

   Body and soul, I am marvelously made!

   I worship in adoration—what a creation!

You know me inside and out,

   you know every bone in my body;

You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,

   how I was sculpted from nothing into something.

Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;

He made you extra special with extra special abilities that no one else has.  He made sure you could do things and say things that are compatible to the people who you need and are needed by you.  Your stories, your experiences, your adventures and your goals are purposely placed inside you so that someone needing an ear, advice, a hug, a friend, a love, or laughter would be able to relate and understand what you’ve gone through or will go through.  God strategically places people in your life and in your season to be helped by you and to help you.

The reason you’re here is no mistake.  You’re still wanted and needed by God who purposely breathed life within you.  Knowing your purpose is a little tricky. Sometimes it takes a while to realize that our whole life is our purpose. Sometimes we try to change what God has put in our life, our purpose, because we don’t like it or it’s too hard.  But when we let God have his way and we follow his purpose for our lives, we begin to see how easy our life is and that the purpose he placed inside of us fits us perfectly. There’s no doubt about it! It is then we begin to live a life full of meaning and intent.

Enjoy your life!  Live abundantly! You are purposed!  You are wanted! You are needed! And You are loved!  Live fully today!
