Spiritual Guidance for the Soul

Episode 1

Proverbs 3:5-12-The Message

Trust God from the bottom of your heart;

    don’t try to figure out everything on your own.

Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;

    he’s the one who will keep you on track.

Don’t assume that you know it all.

    Run to God! Run from evil!

Your body will glow with health,

    your very bones will vibrate with life!

Honor God with everything you own;

    give him the first and the best.

Your barns will burst,

    your wine vats will brim over.

But don’t, dear friend, resent God’s discipline;

    don’t sulk under his loving correction.

It’s the child he loves that God corrects;

    a father’s delight is behind all this.

Healing is the most important thing to do right now.  After this past year of disappointments, heartbreak and feeling defeated, your soul needs healing and replenishment.  Run the past thoughts through your mind.  It will hurt, you will feel pain and guilt, but let it run.  You may cry and that’s okay.  Healing begins when we realize there is a wound.  It must be cleaned properly to heal.  Get out of your mind ALL the cause of your disappointment, hurt, pain, guilt (infection) knowing a clean wound heals properly and the skin grows back.  Once it heals you can begin again, WHOLE! And with experience and knowledge you gained so that you won’t hurt yourself or someone else again. (change)

Beauty growing among the dying.

My trainer suggested I go for a walk and take a picture of anything that inspires me. He listened to my stressful week and thought a walk might help. He said that it always helps him.

On my walk, I found these beautiful flowers. They reminded me that there is still growth among the pain, sadness, hardship, death and it’s beautiful. My shadow reminded me of my beautiful growth and that all beauty takes time and still grows among the thorns.

Beauty takes time to shine!

So Worth It!

“I need to change!”

Transformation begins with believing:  “I need to change!” Wow! Have you ever said that to yourself or to someone else?

I’ve said it a million times over my past lifetime.  But never to really claim it and do something about it that changed my life.  Until……….August 2018. I had researched DFIT and became intrigued with the testimonies and felt in my spirit that this team of regular people could help me.  I was finally ready!

This program has changed my life and the lives of those around me.  I don’t even looked like I did a year ago. I look in the mirror and think, “Who is that girl?”  Then I smiled because she looks great!

I’ve inspired people at work to look at their lives and change as well.  What you do affects others. Are you ready for that? Are you ready to change your life and others?  What would the impact be if you did? What would it be if you didn’t?

Recently, I asked these wonderful people, “Why do you do what you do?”  Here are their responses:

“People are unhealthy!  I want others to experience what I experienced, a healthy change!” -Demetrius Farrior, Personal Trainer.  www.dfittransformation.com

“I have worked with people that have mental health issues.  Medication doesn’t fix their problems, it’s something that goes way deeper.  I feel I can be one out of many that can address these issues and truly make a difference in someone’s life.” Ezekiel Nelson, Licensed Massage Therapist.  https://www.shopheavenlyessential.com

“I do it because someone helped me do it and because I LOVE having the opportunity to help people virtually.  Because it’s my way of sharing God with others; because He is a God of Order. Andrea Anderson, President, Productive Environment Institute.  www.dfittransformation.com

Purpose begins with a LOVE of what you are doing.  Your WHY comes while you’re doing it!

Walk It Out!

Slippers!   The day was not looking good for me! I left my wallet in my daughter’s car early that morning.  I thought I left my phone at home and would not be back until that evening. I didn’t, whew! I had a long meeting at school that morning, had to call a parent about their child’s behavior and write him up.  I met with another person about being the coordinator of a committee at school (my 5th commitment). I had a come to Jesus moment with another student who rolled their eyes at me. I took 10 mins of recess the next day so students in my class could practice how to line up to go out of the room and into the hallway, since they were having such a hard time with it that afternoon.

After school, I had a training so I can be a better teacher and my head was filled with gibbly-garb as I thought about all the things I needed to get done that evening.  I needed to write sub plans for the next day, put students in reading groups, start behavior plans, look at IEP’s and create MTSS plans and tweak lesson plans, grade papers, fill out interims and on and on and on…………….

In the car on the way home, I turned the radio to several different stations.  Finally, I found a head-banger 80’s song, so I turned it up and sang loudly and banged my head to the music.  I found it quite refreshing. Then I remembered what my trainers, Demetrius and Andrea (DFIT Institute for Transformation) told me one day when had a similar day before school started.  They said to go for a walk outside. I thought that would be perfect today.

I got home and immediately changed into my workout wear, grabbed my earbuds and phone (playlist).  I walked in my neighborhood. I walked down my street and up another, up a really big hill and down the really big hill and then home.  As I was walking, I felt the breeze on my face, I looked at the trees, houses, yards, cars, saw a neighbor smile, a big dog (I prayed I wouldn’t be eaten) and all the drama and chaos of that day fell away.  I thought about how much energy I had now and how much I could get done, including writing this blog post!

I still had a lot to do, but I could conquer it now with my extra boost of energy and the fact that the stress of the day had fallen away all because I decided to walk it out!

Take time for yourself, especially those of us who take work home.  Notice your signs for the need to de-stress and find a way that works for you.  Be intentional, purposeful and creative. Not everything works for everyone.  Make it a healthy choice, make it beneficial for you and your body. Remember it is important for you to be here and do what you do.  So walk it out and find your “ME“ again!

Look Back Often

I know there’s a saying, “Don’t ever look back!” But as a Christ-follower, I look back often. I look back to see how far God has brought me from. How far He has protected and provided for me. Before I was ever born, God destined me for GREAT things. “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be”. (Psalm 139:16)

I’ve lived a life where I’ve contemplated murder, suicide and running away. I’ve had depression. I’ve ruined relationships, friendships and made some really bad choices. And even though these were times I wasn’t a Christ-follower, God was there for me. He was just waiting for me to need him. Waiting for me to call to him, so he could run to me, hug me and remind me that I am destined for GREAT things. Now as I look back on these choices I’ve made and places I’ve been, I praise the God who saved me, protected and provided for me. The God who loves me in my trouble and in my joy! The God who leads me into greener pastures and hides me under his wings.

Look Back to see where you’ve been. Take a moment. Where has He brought you from? How has He protected and provided for you? Your life is not lived by your own strength, but His. You get to make choices, but alone we don’t always make to best ones. We need God to help us make the best choices for our lives. Remember, He ordained our days way before you came to be! We need him to lead us and show us the way.

I still have troubles and sometimes make bad choices, but God is never far away. I call on him more. I’ve learned to pray before making a choice. I’ve learned to wait, be still, and worship. I’ve learned to be content and calm. I’ve learned that being destined for GREAT things requires GREAT patience and GIANT steps!

As you are moving forward on this great journey of life, remember to Look Back Often!

Embrace your Community

I belong to several communities: school, church and home. But my favorite communities lie outside of these places, but have everything to do with them. My home community consists of family and friends who love and care about me and each other. My church community consists of people who care about other people and a life group that supports and listens to each other. My school community consists of co-workers who have become like family. But my new favorite community is my PLC (Professional Learning Community).

My PLC consists of women who share the same trials and successes. Who change the lives of children daily and who love teaching and believe in their purpose. These ladies work hard to share and improve their craft, follow center, county and state rules and regulations while making sure their students are learning, safe and sound. Today we met after a day of teaching to connect and discuss a book we’ve been reading together. We started discussing the book, but our time turned into a sharing of our classrooms and students, inspiring and uplifting each other, believing and supporting one another. We didn’t try to one-up each other, we didn’t focus on ourselves and we didn’t try to have all the answers.

We listened to each other, we supported each other and we cared for each other. Brought together by a county who believes we can do more together than alone. One who supports and guides us to continue to be superior in our field of expertise. One who believes that teachers are just as important as the students they teach.

Teachers, in a world where test scores are considered more important than what is taught, we must remember that God made us for this purpose. He created you on purpose, for This purpose. You are like no other person, so stop wanting and trying to be like someone else. You are wonderfully and beautifully made! You are who God created you to be! There is no one who can do what you can do, there is no one who teaches the way you do, there is no one who loves and supports the students the way you do. You are the only one; the only you! He knew you before you were even born. He created you, knitted you together, very special, very unique,very you!

God saw your unformed body; all the days ordained for you were written in God’s book before one of them came to be (Psalm 139:16-italicize words are author added). He knows you, created you and loves you! He is your Rock, Savior and Best Friend! He is always here for you! Trust His ways and trust His journey in your life! Your purpose brings Him glory! Just be Awesome YOU!

On a side note:

Remember to take time out of your busy day just for you! Go home, get alone and brush off the day. What you didn’t get to do or say today, can be said or done tomorrow. Tomorrow is a new day, a start over! Leave the past in the past and move forward into today. Begin again each day! Weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning! Psalm 30:5b-NIV

You’re Not Alone

I’ve waited until the last day of the year to write this message. As I mull over the last year, I’m reminded of how my life has changed even in a course of a year. I’ve grown wiser (not that I use that wisdom consistently), I’m more content with what I have and I appreciate things more like nature and my family. I try to notice things, listen more and managed money better. Have I succeeded in making these habits or daily rituals? NO! I still struggle with these things daily. I mess up, make mistakes, procrastinate, fail, and fall off the wagon! I carry these things into a new year each year wanting to be perfect at them. Wanting to improve them and change them into good daily habits! But I don’t and I can’t do it alone.

I need help! Thank goodness, I’m a Jesus-follower! I need him to help me daily, hourly, minute by minute! I can’t do life without him! He makes my life look easy peasy. But you don’t see me at my lowest. You don’t see me struggle with paying my bills or listening to my children. You don’t see me struggling to understand why my students aren’t learning or why I get so nervous when I get observed to make sure I’m a great teacher. You don’t see me struggle trying to be a good single mom, carrying the load of two parents on my shoulders. You don’t see me struggle to understand why my books aren’t selling and what I need to do about that. You don’t see me struggle to make videos so you will know who I am. You don’t see the weight of my burdens because I hide them inside for only God to see. I don’t allow you to see. I don’t want you to think I’m human, a person, and a wounded, broken soul struggling to make a life. But I am.

Is this you? Do you struggle to change? Do you hide your life from society so that they only see the good you, not the broken, run down, wounded you? YOU’RE NOT ALONE! I am YOU! But if you don’t have God in your life, we are not the same. God gives me peace about the things I cannot change. He gives me peace about the things I can and helps me overcome them. God carries my burdens for me so I don’t have to. He fills me with His joy and that is what you see. I struggle to write this because there are so many things I want to tell you, but it’s not coming out the way I want it to. That is God as well. He gives me thoughts and things to tell you and I write them down. These are not my words but His. He loves you so much and wants you to know Him. He will give you the peace you are looking for, searching for. He will help you with you resolutions and He will give you new ones (the ones He wants you to have). Instead of having our own new year’s resolutions, ask God what He wants for your life? You will be surprised at what He thinks you should do or change.

In Jeremiah 29:11 NIV – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” The God of the entire universe who created you specifically on purpose for a purpose and with a purpose, plans to prosper you, not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Now that’s LOVE!   If you give him your heart, no matter what condition you’re in or where you come from, He will save you from yourself and all your resolutions! He will create in you a new heart and give you a new life, a new beginning! When you fall, He will be there. When you falter, He will be there. When you succeed, He will be there. Talk to him; let him know what’s going on. He already knows, he just wants you to talk to him, just like in any relationship. He will pick you up, dust you off, stand you up and walk with you. He will never leave you. I have left him, but He has never left me! When I’ve come back, He was always waiting on me. That’s LOVE!

In this New Year, I do have resolutions. I call them the ABC&G. I resolve to be active physically and in writing/authoring. I resolve to be Bold in writing/authoring. I resolve to be Consistent in being healthier, money and writing/authoring. But most importantly, I resolve to Have God in my life helping me resolve these things and the things He wants to resolve in me. You are not alone. As He was with those in the Bible and throughout history, He is with you!

Joshua 1:5, 7-9 NIV – No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you, do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

The Book of the Law is the Bible. If God was with all of these people long ago, He will be with you like He is with me. YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Resolve to God and He will bring you lasting relationships with people who will encourage you, love you, inspire you, take care of you and be honest with you. And, you always have me! I will be here for you, praying, encouraging, inspiring and loving!

Happy prosperous and successful New Year!
